Mrs. Vowell's PBL is filled with Juniors and Seniors who work in the FabLab. In there, they have sewing machines, 3D printers, a heat press, a laser printer, and the ‘huge’ format printer. Her PBL went on a field trip to Gene’s Printing and E2 Sports earlier this semester to learn new things they can apply at Oliver Springs High School.

The students in the Fablab who went on the field trip talked about their experiences on the field trip. Ariana stated, “One thing I learned on the field trip was seeing all the different ways people print things.” In the FabLab, she works on wood plaques for the bricks around the school and on the laser printer for prom QR codes to vote for prom queen and king.

“One thing I found interesting was how all the intricate printing was spaced among larger portions of the store,” Caden said. He works on the 3D printers in the FabLab. He has made car tags, keychains, tree tags, Yeezy slides, and other items for the October Sky Festival.

Summer said she learned that Gene’s Printing “prints stickers for mugs, frames, and many other things.” Summer works on the big printer to help make posters for the Historical Society with Aubrey Loy.

Mrs. Vowell has a student who specifically  works with the Oliver Springs Historical Society, Aubrey Loy. Aubrey works with Mr. Duncan as he gives her a task list of things he would like printed for the Historical Society. He donates money to Fablab for the hard work that Aubrey does. She is currently working on a huge project for the Historical Society to remember the Oliver Springs Hotel.

In the FabLab, senior Gav Salenga also creates shirts for students who are nominated for student of the month. He designs the t-shirt and then prints and presses the designs on shirts. They get the option of having Mr. Branham’s or Mr. Booth’s face on it. Gav and other members of the class also designed and made shirts for our STEM Ambassadors.

The sewing machines in the FabLab cost $200 each for a total of $800 because there are 4 sewing machines. They are currently working on a project for the Children's Hospital. They are making blankets, pillow cases, etc. They are also making dog mats for crates.

The FabLab also is selling bricks from the old high school building for $75; all of the proceeds made from that go towards projects and other equipment needed for the FabLab. Be sure to keep up with our school Facebook and website for more information on buying a brick when they become available.
