Several OSHS students have been busy achieving some AWESOME things in and outside of the classroom.
First up is senior Nicole Gann. Nicole has been accepted into the University of Tennessee's Haslam Leadership Scholars program which "is an exclusive academic cohort at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The program, founded by the Haslam family, has a focus on leadership with a goal of creating and retaining community-minded leaders in the state of Tennessee. Scholars benefit from a rich leadership-based curriculum and a generous four-year scholarship covering tuition, fees, and room and board, as well as a fully-funded study abroad experience, paid internship, and 5,000 dollar stipend. The intimate 15 person cohort brings together a diverse group of young leaders from across the state and continuously sees its students bring in national and international honors." We are so proud of Nicole and all of her achievements inside and outside of the classroom!
Juniors Hope Moran and Carson Nivens attended the SCOPE conference earlier in March. This is a conference sponsored by TN School Board Association. They got to learn how school boards operate, policies, and how to debate. They also participated in debates about school board policies. Hope and Carson are exemplary students of OSHS and models to their peers. Both students are class officers and Beta Club members. OSHS is proud of Hope and Carson for their commitment to excellence in their academic and personal lives.
Finally, freshman Lane Vowell was nominated by a teacher and then accepted into MTSU's True Blue 100 class for 2024. "True Blue 100 exists to acknowledge outstanding high school freshmen that share our core values and commitments and live up to them each day - all while excelling academically...Students who are selected to be a part of True Blue 100 will be invited to special opportunities throughout their high school careers." Congratulations to Lane for being accepted into this elite program! You definitely deserve it!
